ABOUT ME Merrell Engineering is a Professional Limited Liability Company organized under the laws of the State of Florida in 2002. It’s General Manager, Mr. Duane R. Merrell, is a Professional Engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the design of bridges and heavy foundations and is currently licensed in the State of Florida. Mr. Merrell received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering) from the University of Michigan in 1979 and was first licensed in Florida in 1985. Prior to moving to Jacksonville, he had been employed with Sverdrup & Parcel and Associates in St. Louis, Missouri, and David Volkert & Associates in Mobile, Alabama. Locally, Mr. Merrell has been employed with The Sverdrup Corporation, Flood Engineers, Pitman Hartenstein & Associates, and Connelly & Wicker Inc. Mr. Merrell’s expertise includes the inspection and design of bridges, storage tank foundations, elevated pipelines, docks, retaining walls, box culverts, special drainage structures, overhead sign support structures, traffic signal mast arms, access ladders and platforms, and miscellaneous structural repair and rehabilitation work. Representative projects during his career vary from minor emergency repair work to major river crossings. His experience with dock design has been limited to large public facilities with pre-stressed concrete piling and concrete decks, such as the Green Cove Springs City Pier, and the replacement of the Cedar Key Fishing Pier which was destroyed by hurricane damage in 2005. Mr. Merrell has extensive experience in the design and rehabilitation of timber pile-supported marine structures such as timber bridges, bridge fender systems, dune crossover structures and the structural design of timber bulkheads which currently represents nearly one third of Merrell Engineering’s total business volume.
